K & M Machine-Fabricating, Inc. in Cassopolis is proud to announce their Earl G. Marhanka Scholarship winners for the fall of 2017. This scholarship program was established in 2001 in recognition of K & M’s 50th anniversary and in honor of the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Mr. Earl G. Marhanka. To date, $210,750 has been awarded to sons and daughters of K & M employees who meet the program requirements. This year’s scholarship winners will receive $2,000, they are:
Zoe Laubach – Zoe is a graduate of Edwardsburg High School and will be attending Trine University in Angola, IN. where she plans to major in Bio Medical Engineering. At Edwardsburg, Zoe was a member of the varsity tennis team where she excelled as a regional champion and State qualifier two years in a row. Zoe hopes to one day use her degree to develop artificial organs & devices that can help people live normal lives. Zoe is the daughter of William Green, a member of K & M’s Engineering Team.
Jackson McLoughlin – Jackson is a graduate of Lake Michigan Catholic High School and will be attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he plans to major in Computer Engineering. Jackson was a member of the varsity basketball and golf teams, as well as the National Honor Society and Key Club. He hopes to spend his early career learning about engineering overseas and/or down south to experience the differences in their style. Jackson is the son of Derek McLoughlin, K & M’s General Manager.
In addition to the 2 new recipients, 3 scholarship winners from previous years renewed their $2,000 scholarships. They are:
- Emily Baert (Saint Mary’s College, by way of Penn High School) – daughter of Patrick Baert
- Madison McLoughlin (Loyola University New Orleans by way of Lake Michigan Catholic High School) – daughter of Derek McLoughlin
- Amber Streeter (Kalamazoo Valley Community College, by way of Lawton High School) – daughter of John Streeter
